National Nutrition Month

Hey guys! In case you didn't know, March is
National Nutrition Month!!!
In honor of this, I'm going to be talking about some different nutrition topics that are important to me throughout the month. I'm also going to be making a BIG effort to try some new veggie filled recipes during March.

The theme for this years National Nutrition Month is Get Your Plate in Shape
Here are a few plates that I happen to like:

This one obviously isn't a plate but I like it and it is super fun:

How are you planning to Get Your Plate In Shape for
National Nutrition Month?

  1. I like to idea of "getting your plate in shape." I think I'll have to look around for one I like...or make my own? ;)

  2. I like the theme "get your plate in shape" but hate that they have their plate as the logo!!! Especially since I don't agree with it.

  3. I don't agree with the paleo plate (carbs! where are you??) and it doesn't seem super balanced to me, but whatever works for you (and you're a nutritionist, so if you didn't who know, who would?) goes. Thanks for letting me know that it's Nutrition Month - that's kind of fun!

    1. People think you need all these carbs to survive and thrive. When in fact, most people are consuming WAY to many. Have you ever heard anyone say fat doesn't make you fat, carbs make you fat? Because it's true. What do you think people were eating 10,000 years ago? I'll give you a hint, not wheat. You are right about one thing. I am a Registered and Licensed Dietitan and have extensive training in not only clinical nutrition to help those in a diseased state, but also nutrition at the cellular level. I know how our bodies use food. We run better using fat as a main fuel source. I can personally attest to this with not only how I FEEL, but with lab test I've had done before and after eating this way. You can't argue with lab results. And just for the record, I do eat carbs. There are 5g carbs in a serving of non-starchy veggies and 15g carbs in a serving of fruit (the same amount you would find in a slice of bread). Please don't take anything I have said the wrong way. I'm just very aggressive when talking about nutrition as I am obviously VERY passionate about it.

  4. I've seen all those pyramids/plates before, but never right up next to each other ... what an interesting comparison! Excited to see what you've got in store for nutrition month :-)

  5. I like those! I don't follow a template myself, but I do try to make an effort to eat more veggies (volume-wise, not calorie-wise) than meat. I am careful about carbohydrates, though.

I was on and off vegan before. My diet was mostly made up of carbohydrates. I ate a LOT of wheat especially. Seitan was my main source of protein. I was eating whole "foods" but didn't feel nourished, and my hair was falling out more than usual.

I'm trying to focus more on nutrition now, and I find a more colourful, varied plate makes dinner more interesting, satisfying and filling rather than eating a lot of one kind of thing.

I could never go back to the days when I ate a big bowl of cereal or oatmeal for breakfast. I feel dirty just thinking about it :O

I'm excited to see what you have in store for National Nutrition Month :D
